Mirairo Inc. today launched Mirairo ID for International Visitors, a new feature within its Mirairo ID app that allows users to register identification documents issued outside Japan certifying their disability status (disability IDs). Mirairo ID is a digital disability ID app that helps people with disabilities participate in social and economic activities. It combines e-commerce, coupons and marketing features in a single platform designed to support everyday life.

Key Participating Businesses

The service is the first offering under Mirairo ID Global, a new business initiative announced on June 2, 2025. [1] It builds on the infrastructure and expertise developed through Mirairo ID to extend the platform to international visitors with disabilities. As of the end of August 2025, Mirairo ID had at least 650,000 users and was used by at least 4,300 businesses in Japan.

The initial rollout covers 10 countries and regions: China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. By registering a disability ID issued in their home country or region, international visitors with disabilities can access discounts for people with disabilities and other benefits at businesses in Japan that accept Mirairo ID for International Visitors as proof of identity. They can also receive coupons to use during their stay in Japan.

Participating businesses can use Mirairo ID for International Visitors to share information about their products, services and coupons with international visitors with disabilities. This makes it easier for visitors to find services and benefits available in Japan, while helping businesses connect with new customers.

■ Background

Japan welcomed 42.68 million international visitors in 2025, with spending by international visitors reaching ¥9.4549 trillion—both record highs. [2] However, more needs to be done to ensure that international visitors with disabilities can travel in Japan with confidence and peace of mind. Common questions include whether disability IDs issued in their home country or region are accepted in Japan, which facilities offer discounts for people with disabilities, and what services and support are available. Difficulty finding this information in advance is one factor that can limit their choice of destination and what they can do during their stay in Japan.

Inquiries from international visitors with disabilities increased after Mirairo ID was accepted as proof of identity for ticket purchases and entry at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. In June 2025, Mirairo launched the Mirairo ID Global initiative to expand the platform beyond Japan. Since then, the company has worked on ways to verify disability IDs issued outside Japan and enable their use in Japan, collaborated with relevant organizations, and developed the service. Mirairo ID for International Visitors is the first service to launch under this initiative.

■ Looking Ahead

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 1.3 billion people—approximately 16% of the global population—have a disability. [3] The initial 10 countries and regions provide a starting point for broader global expansion. Mirairo plans to gradually expand coverage to additional countries and regions, increase the number of participating businesses in Japan, and strengthen collaboration with relevant organizations in each market. The company will also work to develop revenue models based on coupons, advertising and services for users.

Mirairo also believes that the disability ID verification system developed for this service can be adapted to support people with disabilities in their own countries and regions, as well as those visiting Japan. The company aims to grow Mirairo ID from a platform supporting everyday life in Japan into a global platform connecting people with disabilities and businesses.
